On Paros, the best tavernas aren't always the most visible. Some are right by the sea in Naoussa or Piso Livadi; others hide in inland villages like Marpissa, where you find the real gems. Here's our selection, organised by village.
In Naoussa
Taverna Glafkos Seaside
Our favourite. A fish taverna by the sea, slightly off the main old harbour, with a quiet terrace. Tasty Greek cooking, super-fresh fish, attentive service. Reservation essential in July–August.
Barbarossa Old harbour
The trendy spot in Naoussa. Well-made sushi, lounge atmosphere on the old harbour, Parisian prices. Worth it for an elegant evening. Very busy — book early.
In Ampelas
Taverna Christiana Feet in the water
A truly authentic family taverna, 10 minutes from Isterni, right by the sea. Local Greek cooking, tables almost in the water, simple and warm service. Excellent value for money. Perfect with family, for a long lunch after a swim.
In Marpissa
Markakis Delicatessen Deli · gourmet
Not a taverna, but the essential address for cooking at the villa. A beautiful selection of local products: Paros cheeses (graviera, mizithra), charcuterie, island wines, honey, ready-made dishes, fresh bread. The salad bar is excellent for quick lunches at home.
In Piso Livadi
Markakis Restaurant Sea view
Chef Maria Soboni is a Paros native, and it shows in the cooking — Mediterranean, refined, finely worked local produce. Sea view, lovely terrace, much loved by locals. Booking advised in summer.
In Drios
Markakis Restaurant Waterside
A more traditional version, this one in Drios. Taverna by the water, charming setting, classic Greek cooking. Perfect for a no-fuss lunch, after a swim at Faragas or Tripiti.
In Logaras
Mango Restaurant Sea view
For evenings when you want something modern and creative without driving all the way to Naoussa. Excellent pizzas, reinvented Mediterranean dishes, sea view. A solid spot for both kids and adults.
Bakery
Xilofournos Paros 3 min from villa
Our local bakery, 3 minutes by car from the villa. Excellent wood-fired bread, pastries, and especially artisanal ice creams in the afternoon. It's our compulsory morning stop before the beach.
Practical tips
- Book in July–August. All the best places fill up fast, especially weekends. Ideally, call 24–48h in advance.
- Eat late. In Greece, dinner starts at 9pm, peaks at 10–11pm. If you arrive at 7pm you'll be alone (and the atmosphere won't be the same).
- Ask for island wine. Moraitis or Paros Asyrtiko. Far better value than imported wines.
- Try local fish. Ask what was caught that morning: fagri (sea bream), tsipoura (gilthead), barbouni (red mullet).
- Service is slower than in France. Embrace it — that's the Mediterranean rhythm. Have an aperitif, let go.
"Some of our best evenings have been at the simplest tavernas. Here, luxury is the freshness of the fish, the evening light, and time stretching out."
